By winning the first two ODIs of the three-match series, Sri Lanka brought an end to a drought of a home series win. The side hasn’t particularly been playing great cricket in the last two years. But in recent times under Dimuth Karunaratne, they have picked themselves up. They won the Test series in South Africa followed by a decent performance in the World Cup 2019. Now, this victory should boost their morale as they build-up for the World Cup 2023 from here on.

While this encounter might seem to be a dead rubber, there is a lot of pride at stake for the Lankans. The third ODI is dedicated to the veteran pacer Nuwan Kulasekara who has retired from international cricket recently. The Islanders will aim at nothing less than a clean sweep in this match. Bangladesh, meanwhile, hasn’t lived up to the expectations on this tour.

In the absence of some of the senior players, the team is putting up some poor standards of cricket on display. The bowlers haven’t been on the mark and have been a lot wayward in fact. Moreover, the batsmen have not stepped up to the occasion and it will be tough for them to escape the clean sweep if they continue to play this way.

Pitch and Conditions

The Colombo track has been a good one to bat on given that one applies himself well. Batsmen need to be patient and runs will come by eventually. Also, if the spinners hit the right areas on a consistent basis, they will get the rewards. Scattered thunderstorms are predicted throughout the day tomorrow. Thus, it might cause an interruption to the game.

Team Combinations

Sri Lanka

Avishka Fernando has been in great form in this series. He will continue to open the innings along with skipper Dimuth Karunaratne while Kusal Mendis will bat at three. The likes of Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne will shoulder the responsibilities of the middle order. While Akila Dhananjaya will continue to feature in the eleven, Sri Lanka will have to make a choice between Lahiru Kumara & Kasun Rajitha and Nuwan Pradeep & Dasun Shanaka.

Predicted XI: Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera (wk), Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Akila Dananjaya, Lahiru Kumara/Kasun Rajitha, Nuwan Pradeep/Dasun Shanaka.

Bangladesh

For Bangladesh, Tamim Iqbal should take more responsibility and try to get more runs under his belt. Mushfiqur Rahim has been the lone warrior in the batting order and the other batsmen should look to complement him. The players have got to prove their potential in this game and should look to seal the spot in the side. Also, there are a couple of decisions that the management is to take.

Predicted XI: Tamim Iqbal (c), Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun/Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mahmudullah/Farhad Reza, Sabbir Rahman, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed/Shafiul Islam.
