India have clinched the ODI series against Sri Lanka with two consecutive victories. The visitors chased down the total of 276 runs in the second match with five balls to spare. Deepak Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared a match-winning partnership of 84 runs for the eighth wicket to ensure a win for the team. Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka posted 275/9 with the help of the fifties from Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets each in the bowling.

2012 – This was the tenth consecutive ODI win for India against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. The last time Sri Lanka won an ODI against India at home was in 2012.

1997 – This was the ninth consecutive bilateral ODI series win for India against Sri Lanka. The last time Sri Lanka won an ODI series against India was in 1997. Since then, India have won 10 out of 12 bilateral series while two series were drawn.

11 – India have now won 11 consecutive bilateral series across formats against Sri Lanka. The last time Sri Lanka won a bilateral series against India was in 2008. Sri Lanka defeated India 2-1 in a Test series at home at that time.

2 – Deepak Chahar became only the second Indian player to hit an ODI fifty at number 8 against Sri Lanka. Before him, Ravindra Jadeja scored 60 runs against the Sri Lankan team at the same position on his ODI debut in 2009.

1 – Deepak Chahar became the first Indian batsman to hit fifty at number 8 in a successful ODI chase. His score of 69* is the highest by an Indian at number 8 or lower. He surpassed Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this regard who scored 53* runs batting at number 9 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

2 – Overall, Chahar’s score was second-highest for an Indian number 8 in ODIs with Ravindra Jadeja (77 v NZ) at the top.

2009 – Deepak Chahar starred both with bat and ball in this match. Since 2009, he is the first Indian to hit a fifty and take 2 or more wickets against Sri Lanka in an ODI. Before him, Yuvraj Singh scored 73 runs and picked up 2 wickets for 39 runs in Colombo ODI, 2009.

2017 – Before Deepak Chahar, the last Indian player to take two or more wickets and hit fifty in an ODI was Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder scored 83 runs and took 2 wickets against Australia in that match.
