Sri Lanka you beauty! says Ravi Ashwin after Kusal Perera's heroic knock in Durban

The world is awestruck after the dramatic Test match in Durban. Who would’ve thought that Sri Lanka would upset South Africa in the manner that they did? Needing 78 runs with just one wicket in hand, the odds were stacked against the island nation but a certain Kusal Perera led his team to glory as they registered a nail-biting win over the Proteas in the first Test in Durban.

The left-handed batsman who struck a fighting half-century in the first innings went one better in the second as he scored a mind-boggling unbeaten 153 to take Sri Lanka home. The cricketing fraternity was all praise for Kusal Perera who turned things around for the visitors. His special innings not only helped the Lankans register their second win at Durban but this was also their first international win since October 23^rd 2018.

This is a special win for us

On the start of the fourth day, no one would’ve given Sri Lanka a chance. They were beaten comprehensively in Australia and the batsmen were inexperienced. Hence, chasing 304 was always going to be a tough ask. However, Kusal Perera rallied around the team and batted magnificently. He took blows but was prepared to battle it out. His 200-ball 153 was a special innings but the man of the moment chose to play it down. He said that he just played his part and it was a team effort.

“Great effort as a team, specially the lower order batsmen. They gave me good support. I believed in myself and we did. I did my part, winning as a team. We did our homework. This is a special win for us,” Perera who won the player of the match said in the post-match presentation.
