SRK to Dance on Calypso Tunes buys CPL team Trinidad and Tobago: The King of Bollywood and IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders’ owner Shah Rukh Khan is all set to expand globally and will now be in a league with some top notch Hollywood celebs. He has once again shown his passion for franchise cricket as he has reportedly invested in another business venture. SRK has purchased a Caribbean Premier League team, Trinidad and Tobago ahead of the 3rd edition of the tournament that will be played from June 20 to July 26.

It’s not SRK alone; his production company Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd. along with KKR co-owners Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta has invested in this new venture. KKR, was crowned as IPL champions in 2012 and 2014, have been ranked the most valuable IPL team with a brand value of $86 million i.e. over Rs 500 crore. There is no doubt whatsoever that the Bollywood star will try and take T&T to greater levels.

Speaking with Times of India, SRK said “This is in line with our vision to expand globally. We are thrilled to become part of the cricketing tradition of Trinidad & Tobago”. KKR CEO Venky Mysore, who is a close associate of SRK, added that the success they have had in establishing KKR as one of the most well run franchises in the IPL has encouraged them to expand at a global level.

Trinidad and Tobago team has many star players in their side. South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis who is also the mentor for KKR will be a part of the T&T franchise this year. Dwayne Bravo who was the highest wicket taker in the IPL 2015 season will feature in the side alongside his West Indies team mates Darren Bravo, Samuel Badree and Kevon Cooper. South African Johan Botha and Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal are other prominent names in the team.

Hollywood stars namely Mark Wahlberg and Gerard Butler already own CPL franchises. Wahlberg owns reigning champions Barbados Tridents captained by Kieron Pollard whereas Butler owns Jamaica Tallawahs which is captained by Chris Gayle.

The Baadshah of Bollywood who has a fan base across the globe is set to draw great crowds in Trinidad and Tobago as well where 38% of the population is from Indian origin.
