The Star India Private Limited have won the rights for the audio-visual production services for IPL and BCCI Domestic Cricket for the 2018-19 season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently confirmed the news on their official website. In the press release posted on the website, the Acting Hon. Secretary of the BCCI Amitabh Choudhary, noted that the board had invited the tenders for the same.
BCCI had invited the Request For Proposal (RFP) documents for services relating to the live production of all matches for IPL Season 2018 and Domestic Cricket Season 2018-19. Star India, who have also served as the official sponsors of the Indian cricket team earlier, managed to bag the exclusive rights. The Press Release further suggested that the contract term is only for one IPL season and only one domestic season.
However, the board can extend this contract for the 2019 edition of the IPL and also for the 2019-20 domestic season. This will depend on the decision which will be taken by the board. If Star India get lucky enough, then the contract could also see them hold the rights for the 2020 edition of the IPL.
“The service agreement and the contract term will cover one season of the IPL (2018) and one season of Domestic Cricket (2018-2019),” the release stated.
“The BCCI, however, reserves the right to extend the term for one more Season of IPL (2019) and one more Season of Domestic Cricket (2019-2020) and at its discretion, further extend the term to include IPL Season 2020, as provided for in the Services Agreement,” the release added further.
Big domestic season
The upcoming edition of the IPL promises to be a bigger and a better edition than the previous editions. Two of the most popular franchises are set to be back on the IPL roster this season. Furthermore, the upcoming domestic season also promises to be big affair for the BCCI. The board is planning several new inputs to improvise the quality of domestic cricket. Hence, this deal serves well for Star India.
