Sachin Tendulkar, the former batsman is regarded as one of the high-profile sports personalities of India. Hence, his security will also be one of the high priority of the state government. However, in a recent development, his security cover has been reduced after the meeting of the threat perception committee held under the State Government.
The former player is arguably one of the best batsmen ever that India has ever produced in its cricket history. He bid adieu to international cricket back in 2013. Tendulkar’s batting records speak for his brilliance and will certainly be a difficult task for any current batsmen to break his milestones. Tendulkar is the all-time leading run-scorer in ODIs and Tests. The right-hander played for India for more than a decade and was also the part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup.
State government reduces the security cover of many high-profile individuals
An IPS officer said that Sachin Tendulkar had a security cover of ‘X’ category and a security constable was always around him throughout 24 hours. However, now that cover has been removed, he may be given the police escort. The officer told that the new security cover steps for the particular individuals were taken in the threat perception meeting that was held recently. All the decisions by the committee were taken after considering the inputs received from intelligence agencies and local police stations.
“It’s an in-depth study based on inputs from intelligence agencies and local police stations and independent information. The committee then takes decisions on enhancing or reducing the cover,” IPS officer said as quoted by The Times of India.
The authorised committee also decided to increase the security cover of Anna Hazare and Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray from ‘y+’ to Z. On the other hand, Eknath Khadse, the Indian politician security has been reduced from ‘Y’ category to security escort. The decision was taken by the State Government also marked the change in the cover of 45-odd high profile personalities that includes politicians and other field, people.
