After a big win in 1st T20 International, India continued their form into the 2nd game to seal the series with a 27 run win at Melbourne Cricket Ground. After winning the toss, Australia invited India to bat first yet again. Rohit Sharma took 10 balls to get off the mark but created trouble for the Australians once he opened his account. Shikhar Dhawan on other hand scored a quick 42. Virat Kohli scored yet another fifty plus score with an unbeaten 59. Rohit top scored with 60 before he was run out due to misunderstanding.

Chasing 185 to win, Australia was powered by a brilliant opening stand from Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch. However, Jadeja and Pandya picked a couple of quick wickets to bring India back into the game. Some great moments from MS Dhoni behind the stumps threw Australia out of the game as they managed to score just 157/8 in their 20 overs. Statistical Highlights – India vs Australia, 2nd T20I:

1 – This is the first instance of India winning a bilateral series in any format against Australia in Australia. Earlier in the day, Women’s team sealed the series to register their same by registering their first ever bilateral series win in any format against Australia in Australia.

2 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score two fifty-plus scores in a bilateral series.

3 – Rohit – Dhawan’s partnership of 97 is the 3rd highest opening partnership against Australia in T20I format.

5 – Virat Kohli received his 5th man of the match award in T20I format. Among Indians, only Yuvraj Singh have more than Kohli with 7 match awards.

6 – Virat Kohli has scored 6 fifty plus scores in the current tour of Australia. Among Indians, only Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar had as many fifty-plus scores as Kohli in a single tour of Australia.

7 – India won its 2nd series under MS Dhoni’s captaincy on Australian soil in International Cricket. Dhoni now became the 7th visiting captain and 1st Indian to lead his side to 2 or more series victories on Australian soil in International Cricket.

11 – Number of fifty plus scores Virat Kohli has scored in T20I format. Only the 3 players have scored more than Kohli.

12 – This is the 12th time India has scored excess of 180 in T20I format. Only England (20), New Zealand (15), Australia (14) scored 180+ in T20Is on most occasions than India.

13 – Number of times Rohit Sharma has been involved in run outs in International Cricket. Out of the 13, 9 times, he got run out.

15 – Runs conceded by Nathan Lyon in his first over on his T20I debut. Hardik Pandya gave 19 runs in his first over on his T20I debut during 1st match of the series.

38 – Rohit Sharma now has 38 fifty plus scores in Twenty20 format. Only Gautam Gambhir with 39 fifty plus scores has more than Rohit among Indian players.

40 – India’s Top3 batters Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli scored 40+ during the Indian innings. Only the 2nd time, top 3 batsmen scored 40 and more runs in a T20I innings.

50.65 – Virat Kohli has a T20I batting average of 50.65. Among the players who have scored 1000 T20I runs, Virat Kohli’s average is the highest. Next best is JP Duminy with 38.20.

80 – This is the first time both the sides had 80+ opening stands in a T20I match. India had 97 run opening stand while Australia had 94 run stand.

96.33 – Virat Kohli has the best batting average in T20I format since January, 2014. Rohit Sharma has the 2nd best batting average in T20Is since 2014 with 46.55.

97 – Rohit Sharma – Shikhar Dhawan’s partnership of 97 is the 2nd highest opening stand for India in T20Is. Highest is 133 by Virender Sehwag – Gautam Gambhir pair vs England in 2007 WT20.

140 – Number of stumpings MS Dhoni has made in International Cricket so far. These are the most by any keeper in all format of International Cricket. He went past Kumar Sangakkara, who made 139 stumpings during his career.
