Statistical Highlights - Pakistan vs England, 1st ODI

Pakistan’s day started with the news of Younis Khan’s retirement from ODIs. The fighter announced his retirement in his comeback match. Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first only to be reduced to 14 for 3. The captain himself and James Taylor then added 134 runs for the fourth wicket to uplift the team but the lower middle-order betrayed and England were again in trouble at 180 for 8. Chris Woakes took England to a more respectable total 216 all out.

• 24 – Man of the Match Awards won by Mohammad Hafeez in all formats in this decade (since January 1, 2011); second only to Virat Kohli’s 25.

• Suitable Position – 41.73 is what Mohammad Hafeez averages when he bats at one down, almost 12 units better than 29.70 he averages opening the innings. Seven of his 11 ODI Centuries have come batting at no. 3.

• Attacking from Down the Order – Four sixes hit by Babar Azam in his innings of 62* were the most hit by a Pakistani no. 6 batsman since Shahid Afridi struck the same against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2010.

• The Goodbye – Younis Khan was playing his final ODI match today. The veteran has featured in 265 games and has scored 7249 runs at an average of 31.24 with the help of seven centuries and forty-eight half centuries.

• The Reprise – Pakistan’s win was their first against England in ODIs after losing five on the trot previously.
