Statistical Highlights – Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan ODI Series, 2015: Afghanistan created history as the associate nation defeated a full member nation, Zimbabwe in the 5-match bilateral ODI series after being 1-2 down. Here we look at the all possible stats recorded during the series.

1 – Afghanistan became the 1st Associate nation to win a bilateral ODI series against a Test playing nation. [Minimum 2 matches in the series]

2 – Without qualification, this is the 2nd instance of an associate nation winning a bilateral ODI series against Test playing nation. Other instance was Netherlands beating Bangladesh in one-off ODI in 2010.

223 – Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi top scored with 223 runs in the series. These are 2nd most runs scored by an Afghanistan player and 3rd most by an associate nation player in a bilateral ODI series.

However, these are the most runs scored by an associate nation player in a bilateral ODI series against test playing nation. Afghanistan’s Noor Ali Zadran scored 202 runs in this series.

Nabi and Zadran are the only associate nation players to score 200 or more runs in a bilateral ODI series against test playing nation.

2013 – 271 by Afghanistan in 2nd ODI is the highest score in the series. Last time a bilateral ODI series with 5 or more match didn’t witness a team total of 275 was in Oct-Nov, 2013 between South Africa and Pakistan hosted by UAE.

10 – In International Cricket, Chamu Chibhabha’s “Handled the ball” dismissal was the 10th instance. Last such instance was in 2001 when England’s Michael Vaughan was given out when he handled the ball against India in a test match.

4 – Mohammad Nabi’s man of the match award in 2nd ODI was his 4th man of the match award in his ODI career. These are the most number of match for an Afghanistan player in ODIs. Only 6 other players have more man of the match awards than Nabi among associate nations.

0 – Afghanistan players never got a Man of the series award in ODIs before this series. Mohammad Nabi not only became the 1st Afghanistan player to receive a man of the series award in ODIs, but also came only the 8th player from associate nation to receive a series award in ODIs.

34 – Innings taken by Afghanistan’s Mohammad Shahzad to complete 1000 ODI runs. He is jointly fastest Afghanistan player to reach 1000 ODI runs.
