Aaron Finch smashed his first century of the ongoing Marsh One-Day Cup as he scored an unbeaten 188 against Queensland on Tuesday. His team Victoria has been quite poor in the first three matches as they were bundled out in all three matches with them posting less than 200 twice. As a result, Finch needed to score a big one and he delivered for his team. In the game played at the Junction Oval, the opening batsman recorded his List A best of 188 from just 151 balls.

Usman Khawaja’s century powered Queensland to 304/6 despite their slowing down in the second half. Finch added 136 for the first wicket in 17.5 overs with Sam Harper (44 off 44) and an unbeaten 169-run partnership in 26.3 overs with Marcus Harris (61* off 75) for the 2nd wicket. As a result, the hosts chased down the target with 34 balls to spare. Aaron Finch smashed 11 fours and 14 maximums in his unbeaten knock.

Finch’s 188* is now the highest individual score recorded for Victoria in List A cricket. He surpassed Cameron White’s 165 in the 2017 edition against Western Australia. White scored 165 from 154 deliveries with 16 fours and six sixes at the WACA.

Overall, Finch’s knock is the 5th highest individual score in the history of Australian domestic One-Day Cup. The highest is recorded by D’Arcy Short for Western Australia last year also while playing against Queensland. D’Arcy thus went past Ben Dunk’s unbeaten 229 for Tasmania in 2014 which also was recorded against Queensland. Short smashed 23 sixes during his record innings which are the most by any player in a List A innings.

The 14 maximums by Finch in this match stand second in the list of most number of sixes in an Australia One-Day Cup game. Overall, only two other Australians (15 by Shane Watson vs Bangladesh in 2011 and 14 by Joe Burns vs India A in 2015) have hit 14 or more sixes in any List A match.
