Stats: Babar Azam completes 3000 runs in Twenty20 cricket

Babar Azam has always been on the consistent side when it comes to the Twenty20 cricket and his record speaks for itself in this format. The 24-year-old recently became the quickest to score 1,000 runs in the T20I cricket breaking Virat Kohli’s record. From 29 innings in the Twenty20 Internationals, Babar scored 1182 runs at an average of 53.72 with nine fifties. His international record in the shorter format overshadows his overall T20 career where he averages 41.5 only.

The Pakistan batsman scored 3071 runs in this format from 92 innings with help of 24 fifties; which are staggering numbers for any player in T20s. Babar began the 2019 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with a match-winning half-century for his team Karachi Kings. Playing against the Multan Sultans, Babar shared a record 157-run opening stand with PSL debutant Liam Livingstone. He scored 77 from 59 balls with six fours and a six.

When Babar Azam went past his individual score of six, he completed 3,000 runs in the Twenty20 format. Azam needed only 92 innings for completing this milestone. The number of innings he took is the 4th fewest by any player. Australia’s Shaun Marsh is the quickest to 3,000 T20 runs in both matches and innings and he reached the milestone in his 85th innings during his 87th T20. Only Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch are ahead of Babar in this list as they accomplished it in 87 and 90 innings respectively.

Fastest players to 3000 runs in Twenty20 cricket:

Babar Azam is also the 9th player from Pakistan to complete 3,000 runs in this format and the fastest among the lot. The fastest among previous eight players from Pakistan to reach the milestone was Ahmed Shehzad, who did it in 106 innings. In fact, Babar is the only player from Asia to complete 3,000 T20 runs in less than 100 matches or 100 innings. The previous quickest to reach this milestone among Asian players was Mohammad Shahzad, taking 101 innings.
