Stats: Cheteshwar Pujara scores his 3rd Test century in Sri Lanka

Cheteshwar Pujara continued his good run in Test cricket in Sri Lanka as he scored yet another century in the ongoing 3-match series against Sri Lanka. Playing his 50th Test match, Pujara amassed unbeaten 128 on the opening day of the SSC Test match. Thus he became the 7th Indian player to score a century in the 50th Test of his career.
Pujara, who was playing the 3rd Test on Sri Lankan soil have scored a century in all the three games. He scored 145* at SSC only in 2015 and 153 at Galle in the previous game. Thus he became the first player ever to score centuries in each of the first three Test matches he has played in Sri Lanka. The first inning of this game is only the 5th Test innings for Pujara in Sri Lanka with which he equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of taking the fewest innings to score the 3rd Test hundred on Sri Lankan soil.

With this century, Pujara now has the joint 2nd most number of centuries in Tests by a visiting player in Sri Lanka. Only Sachin has more centuries among visiting players in Sri Lanka as he scored 5 centuries in the 11 Tests he played. Five players other than Pujara have scored 3 Test tons in the island against the hosts. The list includes another Indian name, Virender Sehwag who also scored 3 tons in just 6 Tests on Sri Lankan soil.
