David Warner’s ODI career comprises of two halves; one from debut to 2014 and the other one starting from 2015, a period which made the Australia an ODI format beast. Warner averaged just 31.4 till 2014 in his first 50 ODIs and nearly doubled it in the next 50 ODIs he played since 2015 with an average of 59.51. Warner amassed a total of 2678 runs in the 49 innings he has played since the start of 2015 which is the most by any player.

His 12 centuries in this period are also the most by any player with Virat Kohli appearing next to the left-hander with nine centuries in the format. His numbers in his last 25 ODIs are even spectacular as the Australian opener aggregated 1507 runs which include eight centuries, two more than what he managed to score in his first 75 ODI matches.

David Warner’s ODI career – Break-up by 25 matches:

His numbers in the last quarter of his ODI career is equatable to the runs he scored in the first 50 matches but there is a huge difference in the fifties, centuries, average and the strike rate. The 30-year-old made his 100th ODI appearance during the 4th ODI game of the series against India and played a magnificent 124-run knock which made him only the 8th player to score a century in their 100th ODI game and the first from Australia.

This was Warner’s 14th ODI century with only Hashim Amla (16) scoring more hundreds than him in first 100 ODIs. In fact, Warner’s tally of 4217 runs is the 2nd most for any player at end of 100th ODI game behind Hashim Amla’s 4808 runs. Gordon Greenidge (4177), Viv Richards (4146) and Virat Kohli (4107) are the only other players to aggregate more runs in their first 100 ODI matches.

Joe Root currently has 3954 runs in his 96-match ODI career and has a chance to score the 2nd most runs at the end of 100th ODI games for which he needs 263 runs in his next four outings.
