Fakhar Zaman once again proved himself as the man of big occasions coming to the party in the T20I series final to thump Australia almost single-handedly. The opening batsman was crucial in Pakistan’s biggest win over India during the Champions Trophy final last year helped his team recover from early jolts against the Aussies. Fakhar scored 91 runs in only 46 balls that included 12 fours and three sixes.
The left-hander added 107 runs for the 4th wicket with Shoaib Malik after they were 47/3 in the 6th over chasing a record 184-run target. Fakhar remained unaffected with the early wickets including two in the very first over. He took on the opposition bowlers, making most out of 2-3 overs of spin he faced. Just when yet another century in a final was in sight, he ended up holing out but did enough to ensure his team continued their series winning streak in the T20I format.

Fakhar Zaman’s inning of 91 is also the highest by any player in a T20I tournament final. Marlon Samuels’ unbeaten 85 was the previous highest that he scored during the 2016 WT20 final against England at the Eden Gardens. Fakhar brought up his fifty in 30 balls which is the 3rd fastest in a T20 final with International status. D’Arcy Short scored a 28-ball fifty in Trans-Tasman T20I series final this year while Paul Stirling scored a fifty in 17 balls in the 2012 WT20 Qualifier.
Fakhar’s 91 is also the 2nd highest individual score by any player in a T20I knockout game. Tillakaratne Dilshan scored an unbeaten 96 against the Windies in the 2009 WT20 semi-final at The Oval. His inning of 91 is also the 5th highest individual score in T20I and the highest while chasing for Pakistan. The previous highest individual score for Pakistan in this format was 83 by Mukhtar Ahmed against Zimbabwe in the 2015 Lahore T20I.
