Virat Kohli shepherded yet another in the sixth and final ODI of the series against South Africa as India thumped them by 5-1. The Supersport Park in Centurion was treated to a masterclass from the Indian captain as he smacked his 35th ODI century. He was absolutely phenomenal in the series creating records after records and he also added another feather in his cap. Kohli became the fastest ever to 17000 International runs in his career going past his eventual competitor from South Africa Hashim Amla.
The stylish right-hander of Proteas took 381 innings to achieve the feat, while Kohli reached the same landmark 18 innings earlier in his 363rd knock donning India jersey. He is only 29-years-old and has already completed 17000 runs in his career across formats looking even hungrier the next time he comes to bat. With the age well and truly on his side, there would be no surprise to everyone if he ends up creating more records than the Indian stalwart Sachin Tendulkar.
Legendary list grows
The former legendary West Indies cricketer and captain Brian Lara is third on this list now as he had taken 389 innings to reach the landmark in his illustrious career. Sachin Tendulkar’s presence should raise no eyebrows again as he is bound to be there in all kinds of records when it comes to the sport named ‘Cricket’. He brought up these many runs in his career in 394 outings for India. However, his feat of 49 ODI tons is in danger as Kohli is only 14 centuries away from equalling him. The Indian maestro would be more than delighted if he is left behind by the Indian skipper.
Ricky Ponting, one of the best captains cricket has ever seen, is the fifth player on the charts as he took 402 knocks to achieve the staggering landmark. As far as Virat Kohli is concerned he would love to continue in the same vein and also win the three-match T20I series which begins on Sunday.
