When Rohit Sharma gets going it is one of the prettiest sights in this game of cricket. He isn’t a brutal murderer of the cricket ball, doesn’t muscle his shots, isn’t necessarily a bottom hand dominant player. He times the ball and he does it better than anyone else in this era. He’s blessed with the attributes most players would envy and of late the right-hander has been making most of it. In the 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka, he hit the record fastest hundred in this format of the game.

It was his second game as skipper in T20Is and having failed to impress in the first he wanted to make amends. What better place to regain form as a batsman than the Holkar Stadium in Indore. It is an absolute graveyard for the bowlers and the ball comes onto the bat as nicely as it does. Rohit came hard at the Lankan bowlers from the onset and by the tenth over was well in line to get his hundred.

He got there soon enough on the 35th ball that he faced with a boundary. On his way, the Indian opener hit eight sixes and set the team up for a massive total. They were scoring well over 12 runs an over while he was out there in the middle.

The other gentleman who holds the record is David Miller. South Africa smashed the Bangladeshi bowlers while playing in their own backyard. He beat his compatriot Richard Levi to the mark who previously held the top spot with his century against New Zealand from 2012 that came off 45 deliveries. The third highest then was on the name of another Protean Faf du Plessis who got there in 46 balls.

Miller was especially severe against Bangladeshi pacer Mohammad Saifuddin who he hit for five consecutive sixes in the 19th over and earned 31 from the six balls. In the last four overs of the inning, he accumulated 59 runs and he needed just 12 balls to get from his fifty to the hundred.

Here is the list of players who’ve scored the fastest hundreds in T20Is:
