Virat Kohli’s six sealed a 3-1 series win for Team India in the 5-match ODI series against Windies in the Caribbean Islands. A six to win the match is a familiar to the Indians as the former captain MS Dhoni made it a habit of taking the team through with a six over the years and Kohli did it on the eve of the 36th birthday of his descent, Dhoni.

This wasn’t the first time Virat concluded a successful run-chase with a six in ODI cricket. In fact, he has done so three times in the last 7 years. The first instance was during the 225-run chase in against New Zealand at Vadodara in 2010 where he hit one over long-on off Andy Mckay when India needed 2 runs to win.

He hit the second one as captain in the 2014 bilateral home series against Sri Lanka in a close chase at Ranchi in the final ODI game of the 5-match series. Kohli hit a six in the penultimate over when India needed 5 more runs to win off Ajantha Mendis to complete a 5-0 clean sweep. The most recent six to win the match before this was against New Zealand at Dharamsala in the first game of the series as Kohli hit one over the bowler Tim Southee’s head when India needed 3 runs to win in 17 overs.

Having finished chase with a six on 4 different occasions, Virat stands joint second among the players who finished a successful run-chase having smacked a six since 1999 in ODI cricket. Every cricket fan can guess that MS Dhoni stands at the top of the list as he hit the winning six on 9 occasions in ODI cricket.
