First ever T20I cricket match was played on February 17, 2005, and recently 500th T20I match was played between UAE and Ireland. During this period, many a records have been registered and bettered in the format and some of the players have managed to get their name on top in particular categories like most runs, most wickets etc. and here we presented some important numbers of T20I cricket that may surprise you.

500 – Number of T20 international matches played in cricket before today. First ever T20I match was played between New Zealand and Australia at Auckland on February 17, 2005, and 500th T20I match was played between UAE and Ireland at Abu Dhabi on February 16, 2016.

60.52 – Win percentage of Afghanistan in T20I matches which is most by any other team that has played at least 35 T20I matches. Afghanistan has played 38 T20I matches and won 23 matches till this day.

21.87 – Win percentage of Zimbabwe in T20I matches which is the least among teams who have played at least 30 T20I matches. Zimbabwe has played 48 T20I matches and won only 10 till this day.

9 – Number of matches that have resulted in tie in T20 international cricket from the first 500 matches till this day. Last T20I that resulted in tie was played between England and Pakistan on November 15, 2015, at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, the first T20I match that ended in a tie was played between New Zealand and West Indies on February 16, 2006, at Auckland.

172 – Number of runs by which Sri Lanka beat Kenya on September 14, 2007, at Johannesburg which is largest victory margin (in terms of runs) by which any team in a T20I match till this day.

260/6 – Number of runs scored by Sri Lanka against Kenya on September 14, 2007, at Johannesburg which is most no. of runs scored by any team in a T20I innings.

39 – Number of runs scored by Netherlands against Sri Lanka at Chittagong on March 24, 2014, which is lowest no. of runs scored by any team in an innings of a T20I match.

236/6 – Number of runs scored by West Indies against South Africa at Johannesburg on January 11, 2015 while batting second which is most no. of runs scored by any team in a T20I match while batting second till this day.

467 – Number of runs registered in a T20I match between South Africa and West Indie at Johannesburg on January 11, 2015 which is most no. of runs registered in any T20I match.

8 – Number of ducks scored by batsmen registered in a T20I match between West Indies and Zimbabwe at Port of Spain on February 28, 2010 which is most ducks registered in any T20I match. In that match, 6 Zimbabwe batsmen got out on a duck while 2 West Indies’ batsmen returned with a duck.

19 – Number of sixes hit by Netherlands against Ireland in a T20I match played at Sylhet on March 21, 2014 is the most no. sixes scored by any team in an innings of a T20I match.

30 – Number of fours hit by Sri Lanka against Kenya on September 14, 2007 at Johannesburg is most no. of fours scored by any team in an innings of a T20I match till this day.

30 – Number of sixes hit in a T20I match played between Netherlands and Ireland at Sylhet on March 21, 2014 is the most no. of sixes hit in a T20I game.

47 – Number of fours hit in a T20I match played between India and Sri Lanka at Nagpur on December 9, 2009 is the most no. of fours hit in T20I game.

23 – Number of wides balls bowled by South African bowlers against West Indies at Johannesburg on September 11, 2007 which is most the most by any team in an innings of a T20I match.

29 – Number of extras conceded by West Indies bowlers against South Africa at Johannesburg on January 18, 2008 which is the most extras conceded by any team in an innings of a T20I match.

2140 – Number of runs scored by Brendon McCullum in his T20I career is the most no. of runs scored by any batsman in T20Is. He has scored 2140 runs from 71 T20I matches while playing for New Zealand.

156 – Number of runs scored by Aaron Finch against England in a T20I match which played at Southampton on August 29, 2013 which is the highest individual score in T20Is.

472 – Number of runs scored by New Zealand’s Martin Guptill in the year 2012 from 13 matches is the most runs scored by any player in a calendar year in T20I cricket.

36 – Number of runs scored by India’s Yuvraj Singh against England in an over of Stuart Broad at Durban on September 19, 2007 is the most no. of runs scored by any player in any over of a T20I match.

124* – Number of runs scored by Australia’s Shane Watson as a captain against India in a T20I match at Sydney on January 31, 2016 is the most runs scored by any captain in an innings of a T20I match.

123 – Number of runs scored by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum as a wicketkeeper in a T20I match against Bangladesh at Pallekele on September 21, 2012 is the most runs scored by any wicketkeeper in an innings of a T20I.

50.62 – Average at which Virat Kohli has scored his 1215 runs from 33 T20I matches in his career which is most by any batsman who has played minimum 20 innings in T20I cricket.

153.61 – Strike rate at which Zimbabwe’s M Waller has scored his 467 runs from 22 matches by facing 304 balls which is the most by any batsman who has played minimum 250 balls in T20Is.

98* – Number of runs scored by Ricky Ponting in his debut T20I match for Australia which is most by any played in his debut T20I match. He scored this 98* runs against New Zealand at Auckland on February 17, 2005.

45 – Number of balls taken by South Africa’s Richard Levi to complete his T20I hundred against New Zealand at Hamilton on February 19, 2012 is the fastest century of T20Is.

15 – Number of fifty plus scores made by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum in his career which is most by any batsman in T20I cricket. He has scored 15 fifty plus scores from 71 matches and scored 2140 runs at an average of 35.66.

12 – Number of balls taken by India’s Yuvraj Singh to complete his T20I fifty against England a Durban on September 19, 2007 is the fastest fifty of T20Is.

10 – Number of ducks scored by Sri Lanka’s TM Dilshan in his T20I career which is most by any batsman in T20Is. He has scored 10 ducks from 70 matches.

91 – Number of sixes hit by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum which is most by any batsman in T20Is. He has hit 91 sixes from 71 matches.

199 – Number of fours scored by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum which is most by any batsman in T20Is. He has hit 199 fours from 71 matches.

14 – Number of sixes scored by Australia’s Aaron Finch against England in his innings of 156 runs at Southampton on August 29, 2013 which is the most by any batsman in an innings of a T20I match.

71 – Number of balls played by Shane Watson in his innings of 124* runs against India at Sydney on January 31, 2016 is the most no. of balls faced by any batsman in an innings of a T20I match.

27 – Number of innings taken by Virat Kohli to complete his 1000 T20I career runs is the least innings taken by any batsman to complete 1000 runs in T20Is.

91 – Number of wickets taken by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in his career which is most by any other bowler in T20Is. He has played 90 T20I matches and taken 91 wickets.

27 – Number of wickets taken by Australia’s Dirk Nannes in the year 2010 which is most by any bowler in any calendar year in T20Is. He had taken 27 wickets in 2010 from 14 T20I matches.

8/6 – Figures of Sri Lanka’s spinner A Mendis registered in a T20I match against Zimbabwe at Hambantota on September 18, 2012 is the best figures registered by any bowler in a T20I match.

14.42 – Average at which Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis has taken his 66 wickets from 39 T20I matches which is best bowling average of any bowler in T20Is among bowlers who have bowled minimum of 500 balls in T20Is.

5.39 – Economy rate at which West Indies’ spinner S Badree has taken his 31 wickets from 22 T20I matches which is best economy rate of any bowler in T20Is among bowlers who have bowled minimum of 500 balls in T20Is.

11.39 – Strike rate at which Netherland’s Ahsan Malik has taken his 43 wickets from 26 T20I matches which is best strike rate of any bowler in T20Is among bowlers who have bowled minimum of 500 balls.

41.73 – Average at which New Zealand’s Jacob Oram had taken his 19 wickets from 36 matches which is worst average of any bowler in T20Is among bowlers who have bowled minimum of 500 balls.

6 – Number of times Pakistan’s bowler Umar Gul has taken 4 or more wickets in a T20I which is most times by any other bowler in the format. He has taken 85 wickets from 60 T20I matches.

1976 – Number of balls bowled by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in his international career which is most no. of balls bowled by any bowler in T20Is. He has taken 91 wickets from 1976 balls in his career.

2175 – Number of runs given by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi in his career of 90 T20I matches which is most no. of runs conceded by any bowler in T20Is.

26 – Number of matches taken by Sri Lanka’s spinner A Mendis to get his 50 T20I wickets is the fastest by any bowler in T20Is.

30 – Number of catches taken by West Indies’ wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin from 52 T20I matches which is the most by any wicketkeeper in T20Is.

60 – Number of dismissals claimed by Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal from 54 T20I matches which is most by any wicketkeeper in T20Is.

41 – Number of catches taken by New Zealand’s Ross Taylor is the most by any fielder in T20Is. He has taken 41 catches from 68 matches.

171* – Number of runs added by New Zealand’s pair Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson against Pakistan at Hamilton on January 17, 2016 which is most no. of runs added by any pair for any wicket in a T20I match.

1150 – Number of runs added by Australia’s Shane Watson and David Warner in T20Is so far from 36 innings in which they have batted together is the most no. of runs added by any pair in T20Is.

90 – Number of T20I matches played by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi which is most by any other player in T20I cricket history.
