The ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell slammed the highest score in the history of the Big Bash League as he dismantled the Hobart Hurricanes bowling by notching up unbeaten 154 runs which included 22 fours and four sixes. Opening the batting for Melbourne Stars, skipper Maxwell was at his destructive best as he scored the second-fastest BBL hundred in just 41 balls, with Craig Simmons topping the chart for reaching the feat in 39 balls in 2014.

The T20 World Cup winner was in absolutely beast mode as he chalked up 22 fours in his innings, which is the most by any batter in all T20 matches. The hard-hitter with his brutal knock helped his side in reaching a mammoth score of 273/2 in their 20 overs. The Melbourne crowd was fortunate to witness one of the most entertaining and the greatest T20 innings of all time as the big show tumbled various records. His team Melbourne Stars recorded the highest total in the BBL history and also the third-highest score in all T20 matches overall.

Notably, Maxwell registered his second century of this season with his previous ton coming against the Sydney Sixers on December 15, 2021, in Melbourne. He scored 103 runs in 57 balls with 12 fours and three maximums but his team was unfortunate to lose the match by seven wickets. The right-handed batter has scored two centuries in his BBL career with both of them coming in this season alone. Opening the innings in T20s is something which the Aussie enjoys the most as his highest T20I score of 145* off 65 deliveries also came while opening against Sri Lanka in 2016 in Pallekele where he went berserk and clobbered 14 fours and nine sixes.

Glenn Maxwell reaches 100 BBL matches landmark

The 33-years old Maxwell played his 100th Big Bash match and he certainly made it a memorable and special one to remember by playing an outrageous inning. He became the sixth player in the BBL history to reach the milestone of 100 matches after Dan Christian (118), Jonathan Wells (108), Ben Cutting (107), Chris Lynn (102), and Moises Henriques (100). Having played for both Melbourne franchises, Maxwell was part of the Renegades team in the 2011/12 season before joining the Stars side in the 2012/13 season.

The Big show indeed made the dead rubber and the final league match of the ongoing Big Bash League a thrilling game to watch with his unbelievable power-hitting where he mustered a strike rate of 240.62 and created history. The Hobart bowlers had no answers whatsoever to his relentless attacking batting as the Stars captain also got support from Marcus Stoinis who also joined the party and rose to the occasion by smashing 75 runs off 31 deliveries. Take a bow, The Big Show!
