India made a cracking start to the Women’s World Twenty20 as their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur struck a quick-fire century in the opening game of the tournament. Kaur hit seven fours and eight sixes during her 51-ball 103 to help India finish on a record total of 194/5. After winning the toss, Indians were reduced to 41/3. However, young Kaur stabilized the innings with Jemimah Rodrigues as the 18-year-old scored a 45-ball 59.

Here we look at all the major stats and numbers from India’s power-packed start to the Women’s WT20:

1 – Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian Woman to score a T20I century. The previous highest score in Women’s T20Is for India was 97* by Mithali Raj against Malaysia in the 2018 Asia Cup T20.

3 – Kaur is only the 3rd centurion in the Women’s WT20 after Deandra Dottin’s 112* against South Africa in 2010 and Meg Lanning’s 126* in the 2014 edition against Ireland.

8 – Number of sixes Harmanpreet hit in this innings. These are the joint-second most number of sixes hit by any player in a Women’s T20I game. Deandra Dottin hit as many as nine sixes during her innings of 112* against South Africa in the 2010 WT20 game while Sophie Devine also hit eight sixes in the 2015 Bangalore T20I against India.

8 – India hit as many as eight sixes during their innings; all coming from Harmanpreet’s bat. Only the 3rd time a team hit eight or more sixes in a Women’s WT20 innings. Windies hit ten sixes against South Africa in 2010 while Australia also hit eight against Pakistan in 2014.

18y 65d – At the age of 18 years and 65 days, Jemimah Rodrigues became the 5th youngest player to hit a fifty in Women’s WT20. She is also the first teenager to score a fifty in Women’s WT20 for India. Jemimah has already scored three fifties in the T20I format.

59 – Jemimah became only the 7th player and first from India to score a fifty on Women’s World T20 debut. In the Men’s WT20, Virat Kohli is the only player to score a fifty on debut which he scored in 2012 edition against Afghanistan.

103 – Harmanpreet is only the 3rd player to score a T20I century in Women’s cricket as captain. Meg Lanning made 126 in a WT20 game against Ireland while Suzie Bates made an unbeaten 124 earlier this year against South Africa.

134 – The 134-run partnership between Harmanpreet and Jemimah is the highest for India in Women’s T20I cricket for any wicket. They went past the 130-run opening stand between MDT Kamini and P Raut against Bangladesh in 2013.

This partnership is overall the second highest for any wicket in Women’s World T20 thus far. South Africa’s Lizelle Lee and Dane van Niekerk added an unbeaten 163-run opening stand against Pakistan in the 2014 edition.

194/5 – India’s total of 194/5 is the highest total in Women’s WT20 history surpassing Australia’s 191/4 against Ireland in 2014. Overall, this is the 9th highest total in Women’s T20Is with eight of them coming in 2018.
