The England team registered a scintillating win over the opposition side South Africa in the 2nd ODI of the three match series. With the win, they managed to take an unassailable 2-0 lead with a match still to play. As the action perspired at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, the hosts posted a mammoth 330/6 on the board after batting first.

This was the 6th instance in the history of the ODI cricket when they posted a total in excess of 300 runs against South Africa. On the day, it was a superlative ton from their star all-rounder Ben Stokes that helped them post the sizeable total.

In response, the Proteas side failed to chase the total despite needing only 7 off the final over. A clinical bowling display in the final over by Mark Wood set the tone for the England win in the match and the hosts sneaked out a narrow 2 run win. Earlier, in the same series, in the previous game, England had posted another mammoth total – 339/6.

This is the first instance in the history of the game when the English side has managed to score in excess of 300 runs in consecutive ODIs against South Africa. The first ever instance of the Englishmen posting in excess of 300 against South Africa was back in the year 2005 when the two sides met in East London. They had scored 304/8 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Also, this remains the only instance when they scored in excess of 300 against South Africa while batting second in the match.

Here is the list of instances when England posted in excess of 300 against South Africa:
