Royal Challengers Bangalore recorded the sixth-lowest total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they got bundled out for just 68 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. It was indeed a disastrous and unexpected failure from Faf du Plessis’ team as the three-time finalists have been on a roll this season, winning five of their first seven games.

However, their knack of producing a shocking batting collapse once in a while haunted them once again on Saturday (April 23). From skipper Faf du Plessis to the inform Dinesh Karthik, none of the RCB batters could make a mark as the side recorded their second-lowest total in IPL history. It has to be noted the coin landed in SRH’s favour and skipper Kane Williamson opted to bowl first.

SRH bowlers justified the decision as the Bengaluru-based side lost wickets at regular intervals. Marco Jansen did the early damage, dismissing skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat in the very second over of the game. The tale of falling wickets continued as even the in-form middle-order batters couldn’t make a mark. Glenn Maxwell (12) and Suyash Prabhudessai (15) were the only ones to get into double figures.

Even the evergreen Dinesh Karthik got out for a duck. The lower order couldn’t do much either as the Bangalore-based side got skittled out for 68. As far as SRH bowlers are concerned, Jansen and T Natarajan picked three wickets apiece. Left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith also chipped in with a couple of wickets.

Lowest Scores for RCB in IPL:

Meanwhile, this was RCB’s second-lowest total in IPL history. While they posted 87 against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2009, KKR bundled them out for 82 in the 2008 edition. On two occasions, RCB were restricted for 70 in an IPL match – against CSK and Rajasthan Royals respectively. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s lowest score in IPL is 49. This was also recorded against KKR in 2017. It also happens to be the lowest-ever total in IPL history.
