Stats: Most international runs in an away tour by an Indian captain

Team India skipper Virat Kohli is having a merry run in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. In the four matches played thus far, he has two centuries and a fifty to his name already. He has been the main man for the Indian team in the middle-order for quite a long time now. The consistent Indian captain has been setting the record books straight with every passing game.

And this list of numerous records that he is simply making his own includes quite a few captaincy records too. Virat Kohli has hit the most number of hundreds in the ODI format of the game as the captain of the Indian team. He had achieved this feat in the Cape Town ODI against South Africa recently. He had smashed an unbeaten 160 to help the Indian team post a total in excess of 300.

The total was good enough for India to win the match and have an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the six match ODI series. And now, during the Pink ODI at the Wanderers, Johannesburg, Virat Kohli has entered another record book as the captain of the Indian team. He now has the highest aggregate of runs on an away tour by an Indian captain. Interestingly, he finds his name twice in the list of top five aggregates by an Indian captain on an away tour.

As on February 10, 2018, Virat Kohli has aggregated 679 runs in the 7 matches played on the tour of South Africa thus far. This includes 3 tons. His first ton had come in the Jo’burg Test which the Indian team had won. In the ODIs, Kohli smashed a century in the very first game. He followed it up with an unbeaten 46. In the third ODI, he registered his third ODI score in excess of 150.

And in the fourth ODI, he smashed 75. He overtook the previous best aggregate of Rahul Dravid, who had scored 645 runs across the 9 matches on the tour to West Indies back in the year 2006. Not so long ago, Kohli had aggregated 573 runs in the away tour to Sri Lanka in the previous season. He had hit 3 centuries on that tour as well.
