Stats: ODI cricket numbers for the year 2016

The ODI cricket turned out to be the least preferred format in 2016 as a total of only 99 matches were played in the year, one less than the number of T20Is played. Even the number of Tests played were increased this year while the number of ODIs played this year is the 2nd least in the last 20 years. Australia featured in most ODIs in 2016 and dominated the format for a major part as well. Here we look at the numbers recorded in ODI format in 2016.
7/45 – Imran Tahir’s bowling figures of 7/45 against West Indies at Basseterre are the best figures in ODIs in 2016. These are the best bowling figures in ODIs for a South African and 9th best in overall.
7 – Number of centuries David Warner has scored in ODIs in 2016, the joint 2nd most by any player in a calendar year. Only Sachin Tendulkar (9 centuries in 1998) has scored more ODI tons in a calendar year.
11 – Number of fifty plus scores David Warner has recorded in ODIs in 2016, the most by any player.
11 – Number of ODIs Australia lost in 2016, the most by any team in this year.
18 – Aaron Finch’s 18-ball fifty against Sri Lanka at Dambulla is the fastest ODI fifty in 2016. This is the joint 3rd fastest fifty in ODIs and the joint fastest by an Australian in 50 overs cricket.
17 – Number of ODIs Australia won in 2016, the most by any team in this year.
25 – Dismissals made by Matthew Wade in ODIs in 2016, the most by any player. Wade’s 24 catches in 2016 are also most this year in this format.
30 – Wickets taken by Adam Zampa in ODIs in 2016, the most by any player in this year.
58 – Afghanistan’s 58/10 vs Zimbabwe at Sharjah is the lowest total in ODI cricket in 2016. This was recorded on January 2nd.
61 – Sharjeel Khan’s 61-ball century against Ireland at Dublin is the fastest ODI century in 2016. The last 3 years had at least one century in less than 60 balls. 2014 and 2015 seen a century inside 40 balls.
99 – Number of ODI matches played in 2016, the 2nd fewest in a calendar year in the last 20 years. Lowest ODIs in a year since 1996 is 92 matches in 2012.
178 – Quinton de Kock’s 178 vs Australia at Centurion is the highest individual score in ODIs in 2016. This is also the 2nd highest individual score for South Africa in ODIs. Gary Kirsten’s 188* vs UAE in 1996 CWC is the highest ODI score for South Africa.
256* – Jason Roy and Alex Hales’ partnership of 256* for the first wicket vs Sri Lanka at Birmingham is the highest stand for any wicket in ODIs in 2016. This is also the highest ODI stand for any wicket for England.
444/3 – England’s 444/3 vs Pakistan at Nottingham in August is the highest ODI team total overhauling Sri Lanka’s 443/9 vs Netherland in 2006.
743 – Runs scored in the ODI between South Africa and Australia at Durban, the most in an ODI game in 2016. This is the 4th highest aggregate in ODI history.
1388 – Runs scored by David Warner in ODIs in 2016, the most by any player in this year.
