Team India recently saw their herculean 9-series winning streak come to an end with the defeat in the Centurion Test. It was the familiar faltering batting lineup in overseas conditions that cost India the game. The batting mainstays of the Indian side, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, failed to leave an imprint in the second innings.

Needless to concede, the result was severely affected because of this. While Kohli’s dismissal was one about which very little could have been done, the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara was more or less suicidal. Pujara was run out on 19 on the final day. A run out was the last thing that the Indian team had wanted in the match.

It is worth noting that earlier in the match, Pujara was runout in the first innings as well. This is the 25th instance when a player has been dismissed runout in both the innings of the Test match. Also, Cheteshwar Pujara became the first Indian player to enter the list of such players. Interestingly, there are 10 instances when an Australian cricketer has been dismissed runout in both innings of the Test match.

Some more interesting numbers from this list follows. The last time a player was runout in both innings of the Test was way back in the year 2000. Stephen Fleming was the player to be at the receiving end back then. He was dismissed on 22 and 55 in the two innings of the Wellington Test against Zimbabwe. The year of 1999 had seen two instances of a player getting runout in both innings of the Test match.

Marvan Atapattu had scored 37 and 6 against Zimbabwe at Harare to be one of those two players. The other instance had seen Ian Healy getting dismissed on 6 and 10 against West Indies at Kingston. The first player to have been dismissed runout in both innings of a Test match was PA McAlister of Australia. He was dismissed on 10 and 15 in the Melbourne Test against England back in the year 1908.

Here is the complete list of such players who were dismissed in this fashion (Since 1990):
