Scoring a hundred or taking a 5-fer is a special occasion in a professional cricketer’s career but combining these both together in the same game is indeed the most auspicious moment of a player’s career. It is human nature and a man’s natural tendency to set goals and milestones and achieve them.
Many cricketers dream to represent their country, scoring a run or taking a wicket for their country while some aspire to score a century and take a 5-fer in their careers but there are some phantoms who thrive to achieve both in the same game.
Roston Chase may well be the first chase that had troubled Virat Kohli ever since the lad struck form. The 25-year old Barbados player survived more than 250 balls for his maiden Test hundred on a Day 5 pitch after reducing India’s first innings lead to rather minimum 300 with the ball ending with figures 5/121.
This swelling effort by Chase is only the 4th West Indian and 23rd player overall to do a double of scoring a century and taking a five-fer in the same Test match. The first man to achieve this feat was Jimmy Sinclair way back in the 19th century when he scored 106 and took 6/26 for South Africa against England. Sir Ian Botham did it on a record 5 occasions.
