Ranji Trophy, the India first-class tournament with an 83-year-old history has witnessed many brilliant individual performances and inspiring team performances with both the bat and ball. Mumbai/Bombay is the most successful team in the history of the tournament winning almost half the number of seasons (41 titles) played in the history.

Here we look at all the major records of the Ranji Trophy so far.

2 – Number of players who have picked up all ten in an innings in Ranji Trophy. PR Chatterjee (10/20) plucked it for Bengal against Assam in 1956/57 and P Sunderam (10/78) bagged the ten while representing Rajasthan against Vidarbha in 1985/86.

35 – Wasim Jaffer’s 35 centuries in the tournament are the most by any player. Only Jaffer and Ajay Sharma (31) have struck more than 30 centuries Ranji cricket.

36 – Runs Ravi Shastri scored in an over in 1985 for Bombay against Tilak Raj of Baroda. These are the most runs by any player in an over in Ranji Trophy. Shastri struck six sixes in that over.

53 – Number of five-wicket hauls for Rajinder Goel in RT. No other player has taken 50 five-fers in the tournament. Rajinder’s 17 ten-wicket match hauls are also the most for any player.

64 – Bishan Singh Bedi’s 64 wickets in 1974/75 season for Delhi are the most by any player in a season.

138 – Madhya Pradesh’s Devendra Bundela is the most capped player in the history by featuring in 138 games.

173 – Number of catches Wasim Jaffer has taken in Ranji Trophy as a fielder. No other fielder has pouched more than 130 catches.

335 – VR Samant’s 335 dismissals are the most by any wicketkeeper. Samant has 298 catches and 37 stumpings behind the wickets. Naman Ojha (315) is the only other wicketkeeper with 300 dismissals in the tournament.

443* – BB Nimbalkar’s unbeaten innings of 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in 1948/49 is the highest individual score in Ranji cricket. This is also the only 400+ individual score recorded in this tournament so far.

594* – The unbeaten 594-run stand between Swapnil Gugale and Ankit Bawne last season is the highest partnership for any wicket in the Ranji history.

637 – Rajinder Goel has taken 637 wickets in Ranji Trophy which are the most for any player. Srinivas Venkataraghavan (530) is the only other player with 500 wickets in the tournament.

944/6Hyderabad holds the record for both the highest and lowest totals in the Ranji Trophy history. Their 944/6 against Andhra in 1993/94 is the highest in the tournament while the 21/10 against Rajasthan in 2010/11 is the lowest.

1415 – VVS Laxman holds the record for most runs in a Ranji Trophy season with 1415 runs in 1999/00. His eight hundreds in that season are also the most for any player in a single Ranji season.

10143 – Wasim Jaffer’s Ranji Trophy aggregate of 10143 runs are the most by any player. He is the only player to score 10000 runs in the tournament.
