It wasn’t quite the day Rashid Khan would have hoped for when he faced England in the World Cup. He was hammered all around by the English batsmen and remained clueless. The leg-spinner was particularly targetted by the English skipper Eoin Morgan who hit him for several boundaries in the match.

Rashid came out to bowl the 19th over of the match where he started well by conceding just 6 runs. In his next over, he was economical and gave away three runs. But Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow targetted him in his third over and milked 14 runs. In the next two overs, he conceded 13 runs and had decent figures until this point in time.

Joint second-most runs conceded in the history of ODI cricket

Though, the next four overs which he bowled towards the end of the innings were an absolute horror. In these four overs, the 20-year-old leaked 18, 21, 21 and 14 runs accounting to 74 runs from only 24 balls. Thus, he finished his spell spending 110 runs in the 9 overs that he bowled and went wicketless in this game. These were the joint second-most runs conceded in a match in the history of ODI cricket.

Wahab Riaz also went for 110 runs in a game against England that was played in 2016. Also, these are the most expensive figures in a World Cup game breaking a 36-year-old record. Previously, it was MC Snedden of New Zealand who gave away 105 runs against England in the 1983 World Cup. He picked up two wickets in that game. The most expensive figures in an ODI game though were conceded by ML Lewis of Australia, whose 10 overs cost his team 113 runs against South Africa in 2006.

This most expensive ODI figures list also features India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Pradeep who gave away 106 runs each in 10 overs. Tim Southee and Jason Holder, who are playing World Cup 2019, also have their name here and they have given away 105 and 104 runs in 10 overs respectively.

In the most-expensive World Cup figures list, Dawlat Zadran and Andre Russell also find themselves a place. Both of them are playing the 2019 edition of the tournament and have conceded 101 and 96 runs respectively when they played in World Cup 2015.
