In a morning of horror in Visakhapatnam, a major toxic gas leak led to the death of at least eight people and caused illness to hundreds in the port city. The toxic gas leak spread its havoc in a five-kilometer range around it and several individuals had to be hospitalized immediately.
Considering the adversity of the gas leak, the death toll is expected to notch up as many individuals who are currently hospitalized are reported to be serious. Many people were found lying unconscious on the streets after the gas started leaking in the early hours. Children and the elderly have been affected the most due to the incident and the whole country is in shock and grief due to the incident.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak and the lockdown, this incident has plunged more misery on the lives of people in Vishakhapatnam. PM Narendra Modi also released a statement over the incident and said that he has spoken to the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and NDMA. He also prayed for everyone’s safety and well-being in Vishakhapatnam post the tragic incident.
Ravichandran Ashwin also expressed grief over the incident
After the tragic news started doing rounds on the internet, many eminent personalities shared their condolence messages on Twitter. Several cricketers also expressed their grief over the incident and prayed for the people who are currently admitted in hospitals.
Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli also expressed grief over the tragedy and shared condolences to families who have lost their loved ones in the incident. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also expressed his condolences to the family members of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of those who are currently battling in the hospitals.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been quite active on the social media while spreading awareness about COVID-19 outbreak, also expressed his feelings about the gas tragedy and termed the visuals ‘disturbing’. At a time when the whole world is battling against the adversity of coronavirus outbreak, such tragic news served as a shock for many people including Ravichandran Ashwin.
