Australia captain Steve Smith, who was dating his long time girlfriend Dani Willis for the past five years, has finally exchanged the ring of love with her. The 28-year old took to Twitter to announce his engagement to his fiancee. While his future with Cricket Australia is still in shambles, his off-field life is now perfectly in order. Willis is pursuing a law degree in Australia.

Not just Twitter, Smith Smith also posted a picture to Instagram from the Top of the Rock Observation Deck in New York with his fiancée sporting the engagement ring on her finger. “Today I got down on one knee and @dani_willis said YES #engaged,” Smith wrote. A series of congratulatory messages flooded on the comment section of his post. The couple had met five years ago at a bar during the first edition of the Big Bash League in 2011-12.

Smith has often posted photos with his girlfriend turned fiancée on social media. His Twitter display picture too shows the two together in a frame. “She’s always there for me when I am around. She always gives me good advice, and tells me the truth. It is nice that you have some honest feedback to come home to all the time. She has been terrific for me the last few year,” the skipper was quoted by Fairfax Media.

Smith’s Pay Dispute Debacle

However, outside of his love ecosystem, the cricketer is involved in a huge pay dispute with Cricket Australia which just does not seem to resolve. The Australian team has less than 48 hours to go before their pay deal with the board reaches a conclusion. June 30 was set by the CA as the deadline to agree to a new Memorandum of Understanding but the demands of the boards and the players remain poles apart. .
