Rising Pune Supergiants middle-order batsman George Bailey was hit on the helmet grill last night in the game against the Delhi Daredevils. Though the Australian batsman escaped the incident unscathed, his helmet took a good fly and fell on the ground.

Times have changed for sure, there was a time when the pacers fired in bumpers but ever since the unfortunate death of Phil Hughes on the field, the players have become very concerned. When Bailey was hit by the bouncer bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile, the bowler rushed to the batsman to check if he was alright. JP Duminy looked very concerned too.

It was in the 7th over of the RPS chase, when Nathan Coulter-Nile hit a bouncer to Bailey. Bailey could not get behind the ball properly in his attempt to pull. The ball deflected off the top edge and hit him on the grill.  The helmet strap came off, and he lost control of it, which luckily from a cricketing point of view, did not fall on the stumps and hence was not dismissed.

After the match, George Bailey recalled the moment and said all he could say about the moment was getting hit by a truck on his face. He believed that for obvious reasons, the television viewers had a better view of it. “Those watching on TV got a better picture than I did, because all I sort of remember was it was like getting hit in the face by a truck,” Bailey quoted.

He further added that it was good for him that he actually wore the helmet because the ball from his Australian team-mate was indeed quick. “It was pretty quick. I was quite glad to have one of the new helmets on,” conceded Bailey.

Rising Pune Supergiants won the rain-affected match against the Delhi Daredevils to salvage some pride for them.
