Stuart Law appointed Bangladesh U-19 technical advisor: Former Australian batsman Stuart Law has been appointed an advisor to Bangladesh’s junior team ahead of the next year’s U-19 World Cup in the South Asian nation. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials confirmed the appointment of Law. Aged 46, he has played one Test and 54 one-day internationals between 1994 and 1999 for Australia. The Aussie had been in charge of Bangladesh national team in 2012 and guided them to Asia Cup final before quitting on family grounds.

BCB’s CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said Law’s appointment was a “very important milestone” for the next generation of Bangladesh cricketers. “Our Under 19 side has had some excellent results in recent times and has defeated current champions South Africa 6-1 at home and 5-2 away” Chowdhury said. Talking about roping in Law he said “He had a remarkable playing career at the top level and has vast experience of coaching both established and emerging cricketers. We are very happy to get him on board ahead of this massive competition for our boys.”

Law had earlier expressed his interest to coach the Indian side. In 2009, he was appointed Sri Lanka’s assistant coach and then took charge as head coach when Trevor Bayliss left shortly after the 2011 World Cup. He has agreed a term with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that will keep him with the Under 19 side for a period of 16 weeks until the end of the team’s U19 CWC campaign.

After leaving Bangladesh in April 2012, Law was appointed the high-performance coach of Australia’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), after which he coached the Australia Under-19s to the World Cup final the same year. He was assistant coach of the Australia women’s team that won the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.

A BCB press release said Law was expected to arrive in Bangladesh later this month. He is the first Bangladesh senior-team coach to return to the country in another coaching role.
