Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has come up with an ideal response to the repeated digs the Australian media have been taking on team India and Virat Kohli. Ever since the Bengaluru Test, the Aussie media have been making Kohli a bit of ridicule for themselves. One of the popular media houses went on to compare Kohli to animals in their social media post. The matter goes back to the Bengaluru Test when Kohli had blasted his Aussie counterpart Steve Smith for seeking help from the dressing room for the DRS referrals.

The words of Kohli in the post-match presentation did not go down well with the Australian media and they started trolling him soon after. Now, Sunil Gavaskar had rightly noted that there is no need to bother about what the Aussie paparazzi is saying. He said that the media is nothing but an extension of the team support staff and hence they are bound to speak on the trolling lines.

“We should not bother too much about the Australian media and what they write as they are an extension of their cricket team’s support staff. The focus now should shift to cricket from off-the-field issues,” Gavaskar quoted to NDTV.

He further cited that there has been nothing negative between the two captains but the media has made a mountain out of the mole hill. He said that neither of the two captains have spoken about the incident after the Test match. Hence, it will only be in the best interest of the game to bring the focus back to cricket and not the off field drama.

“Neither India captain Virat Kohli nor his Australian counterpart Steve Smith have said anything about the issue in between the second and the third Tests. Nobody spoke anything in between about it but the media, otherwise there was nothing between them [Kohli and Smith]. It is time look at cricket now. A lot of good cricket that was played in the first two Tests has been swept away because of this one incident,” Gavaskar conceded.
