After being asked to follow on, the Sri Lankans decided not to go down without a fight in the 2nd Test match against India at the SSC. Losing Upul Tharanga early once again, the team looked set for another dismal batting performance. But it was Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis who had other intentions on their mind. The duo combined brilliantly to put up a lion-hearted show against Virat Kohli and his men.

After the dismissal of Kusal Mendis, skipper Dinesh Chandimal decided to shuffle the batting line up. Malinda Pushpakumara was sent in as a nightwatchman so that the team does not lose a crucial wicket in the last hour play. Though Pushpakumara survived the rest of the day successfully, he fell victim to Ravichandran Ashwin soon on Day 4. Pushpakumara was on 16 runs when he tried to reverse sweep a Ravichandran Ashwin delivery. The right hander missed the ball completely and the ball went on to rattle the woodwork.

The main story:

Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar looked pretty disappointed with the left arm orthodox bowler for his lack of responsibility. Gavaskar criticized him for trying an outrageous shot being a tailender. According to Gavaskar he should have been sensible enough and avoided that shot at that moment. Sunil Gavaskar also advised him to know his limits and first try to master the normal sweep shot before trying the reverse one.

After losing Pushpakumara nobody in the team could provide support to Dimuth Karunaratne whose effort went in vain as India bundled out the Sri Lankans for 386 runs which were still 53 runs short of the Indian first inning total. India have now clinched the series 2-0 and the third Test will just be a formality. However, the Sri Lankans will look to get a consolation with nothing to lose aiming to restore their pride. Ravindra Jadeja was declared the MoM for his 7 wickets in the match.
