Imran Khan is all set to take the oath as the Prime Minister of Pakistan after winning the general elections in the country for Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI). Having served his country as the cricketer as well, the political party has decided to invite the former Indian cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar for the ceremony which will reportedly take place on August 18. But he has cleared that he won’t be travelling to Pakistan and has declined the invitation.

Gavaskar is due to be present in England to cover the ongoing Test series between India and the hosts during the same time when his fellow Pakistan counterpart will step in as the Prime Minister of his country. He also hoped that Imran works for the betterment of Pakistan during his tenure at the helm while also expecting that the relations between the two countries improve immensely.

I have a lot of expectations

“As a cricketer, Imran Khan has visited India a number of times. He has interacted with Indians. He understands India, so I have a lot of expectations from him as far as India’s relations with Pakistan are concerned,” he said while speaking to India Today. Meanwhile, the former Indian captain also confirmed that he has already spoken to Imran Khan and has wished him all the luck for his tenure ahead as a Prime Minister.

Moreover, the likes of Kapil Dev and Navjot Singh Sidhu were also invited and they accepted the same and set to visit Pakistan for the oath-taking ceremony. Both the cricketers have played alongside Imran during their respective careers in the 1980s and 90s.

There were also reports of the Bollywood actor Aamir Khan being invited for the ceremony but the man himself has denied it. He also went on to say that he won’t be attending the same even if he gets the invitation from PTI.
