Bangladesh spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi has heaped praises on off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his bowling skills. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) extended the former Indian spinner’s contract for a period of 1 year last week after the team drew level with Australia in 2-match Test series. Joshi now will travel with the team to South Africa where they will play 2 Tests and 3 ODIs and 2 T20Is.

Bangladesh defeated Australia for the first time in the 17-year history of their Test cricket in Dhaka and took a lead in the series. The spinners stifled the Aussie batsmen on the square turner in the first match. Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled beautifully to scalp some big wickets in the series and also contributed decently with the bat. Bangladesh would hope that he continues to excel in the longest format of the game during South Africa tour as well.

Shakib is an expert

The former left-arm bowler from India was of full praises when asked about the young off-spinner. “Mehedi has an amazing seam and wrist position. I have not seen a bowler so young (19) get such good drift with the ball,” he said. He also spoke about Shakib’s approach to the game and how he uses the angle against the batsmen. He praised all the players for their learning anxiety all the time.

Along with the young brigade, Bangladesh also have a veteran in Shakib Al Hasan, who is the No.1 all-rounder across all formats of the game and is a guiding light for all the new comers in the team.

“Shakib is an expert at varying the angle and length and his field positions can be stifling. The nuances I picked from (Bishan Singh) Bedi sir were passed on to these two spinners. They are very inquisitive. At the end of the day’s play, they would come to discuss all the three sessions. I have seen few Indians do that in first-class cricket,” he added.

The 47-year-old also lauded BCB for their efforts in bringing up the cricket and claims that the Bangladesh side is on the right path and will become one of the strongest nations in Test cricket.

“The celebrations were incredible. The whole nation rejoiced in the win, which meant a lot for Bangladesh cricket. Believe me, Bangladesh beating Australia is a fantastic result for world cricket. I can say with assurance that Bangladesh cricket is on the right path and it will emerge as a strong Test nation in the times to come,” he concluded.
