Sunil Narine cleared with a final warning is allowed to bowl in the IPL: The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) suspected bowling action committee has cleared Suni Narine for bowling all his deliveries in the Pepsi IPL 2015. This comes in as a huge sigh of relief for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the West Indian spinner Narine. The bowler had undergone a test at the ICC and BCCI accredited Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre (SRASSC) in Chennai before the start of the IPL and his modified action was approved and termed legal.
But the Mystery spinner was again reported to have a suspected bowling action during the Sunrisers v KKR match which put him back in the list of bowlers with suspected illegal bowling action. He was then held back from playing games then on, but since it was only his off spin delivery which was under the radar this time, he again remodeled his action for the particular delivery and went to the SRASSC for another test.
Following a positive report from the test centre the BCCI committee has give Narine a clean remark and he can now continue playing and is free to use all his deliveries. But at the same time it has been raised to him that any further reports of him not obliging to the bowling action norm might automatically get him a ban as per the paragraph 4.9 of the IPL Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy.
The iplt20.com Media Release made by the Hony. Secretary Anurag Thakur stated that:
The BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee clears Sunil Narine to bowl, but gives final warning
In its decision on 28 April 2015 to ban Mr. Narine from bowling off-spinners in the IPL, the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee noted that the player could request a further Official Assessment by the Committee.
This request was received and accordingly the player underwent a third biomechanical analysis of his action at the ICC and BCCI accredited Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre (SRASSC) in Chennai – this time for his remodelled action (i.e. the one that had been cleared by the Committee immediately before the IPL season).
This analysis has re-confirmed the conclusion of the first Official Assessment by the Committee – namely that the remodelled action for the off-spinner does not contravene Law 24.2 (as read with Law 24.3).
Accordingly, the Committee has determined that Mr. Narine’s name be removed from the IPL Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy’s Warning List and that he may once more bowl all deliveries (the off-spinner, the knuckle ball and the quicker straight ball) in matches organised by the BCCI including the IPL.
The Committee, however, has drawn Mr. Narine’s attention to paragraph 4.9 of the IPL Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy. Any further report for a suspected illegal bowling action during the course of this season will automatically mean that Mr. Narine is banned from bowling for the rest of the season. The player has therefore been cautioned to be careful not to again deviate from his remodelled action.
