Kolkata Knight Riders found themselves in a tough situation when Mitchell Starc pulled out of the tournament at the very last moment. Earlier their star spinner Sunil Narine who they had retained for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got reported for suspect bowling action during his participation in the Pakistan Premier League (PSL).

With KKR opening their IPL campaign on Sunday, the 29-year-old spinner will be running against time If he and his side need him to do the bowling. The bowler is likely to get tested at the Sri Ramachandra Sports Medicine Centre for the suspect reported action.

Stricter BCCI rule won’t allow Narine to bowl until he gets himself cleared

As per the IPL guidelines, If a bowler has been “reported” for his bowling action anywhere in the world, he has to come to a Board-accredited clinic and the facility in Chennai is the only such center in the country. However, during the PSL, the bowler was allowed the bowl as per the PSL guidelines where the PSL officials had put him in the “warning list”.

Notably, Narine has found himself under the suspect bowling action on a number of occasions and as he braces himself to represent his old franchise, things don’t look easy for the bowler. As per a source who was in conversation with sports portal sportstarlive, “We have to first look at the videos of his earlier faulty action, and then see his remodeled one now.”

Once the bowler finishes his testing where 3-D technology and sensors will be used to check the bowler’s elbow flexion from various angles, the reports will be sent to BCCI Suspect Action Committee comprising S. Venkatraghavan, Javagal Srinath and A.V. Jayaprakash who will decide If the bowler can bowl in the tournament or not.

The first match of the IPL starts where the reigning champion Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Superkings who are marking their return to the tournament after the 2-year ban.
