The Central Stags’ solid batting has struggled in both their games this season as they started with one win and one defeat. Skipper Tom Bruce rescued them in their first game of the tournament with an unbeaten 83-run knock against the defending champions Northern Knights. However, in the previous game against the Auckland Aces, the Stags bundled out to just 107. They will now be up against the Wellington Firebirds who are yet to open their winning account.

Firebirds started with a big defeat against the Knights before their game against Auckland was washed out. They were set towards a win against Otago Volts cruising at 107/0 in the 11th over in the 168-run chase. A middle-order collapse restricted them to only 166/9, one short of the Otago’s total. Both the teams will miss some big names due to the limited-overs leg against Sri Lanka. Stags are set to lose Doug Bracewell while the inform Jimmy Neesham will be unavailable for the Firebirds.

Match Details:

The 8th match of the Super Smash T20 2018-19 will be played between Central Stags and Wellington Firebirds at the Pukekura Park in New Plymouth.

The match starts at 4:00 PM local time (3:00 AM GMT) (8:30 AM IST).

The game will be live on Star Sports Select 1 and Star Sports Select 1 HD. Streaming available on Hotstar.

Pitch Condition/Report:

Contrary to the previous results at the New Plymouth, the previous match here turned out to be a slow scoring one. In the last four completed Twenty20 matches hosted by the Pukekura Park, the teams batting first have made 170 on three occasions.

Squads:

Central Stags:

Tom Bruce (C), Dean Foxcroft, Josh Clarkson, Dane Cleaver (WK), Christian Leopard, Willem Ludick, Felix Murray, Kieran Noema-Barnett, Seth Rance, Blair Tickner, Ben Wheeler, George Worker, Will Young.

Wellington Firebirds:

Hamish Bennett (C), Tom Blundell (WK), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Adam Hose, Troy Johnson, Ollie Newton, Malcolm Nofal, Jeetan Patel, Michael Pollard, Ben Sears, Logan van Beek, Luke Woodcock.

Injury and Availability Updates after the announcement of the squad:

(Will be added when there is an update)

Power Picks:

The 20-year-old Dean Foxcroft is in line to make his T20 debut after a good List A season. In the six One-Dayers for the Central Districts, the all-rounder scored 259 including an unbeaten 120 and 90 in successive matches. The former South Africa U19 player also bagged four wickets in the 30 overs he bowled in those games.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

George Worker will be an ideal option as captain from this game. He could succeed on the slow track at the New Plymouth and will be opening the innings with the bat as well. All the batsmen in this game have the capability to make it big and should be considered for multipliers. If the track plays like the last match, Jeetan and Rance will be perfect from vice-captain role.

Suggested Playing XI No.1 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Tom Blundell

Batsmen – Devon Conway (VC), Tom Bruce, Dean Foxcroft, Adam Hose, Will Young

All-rounders – George Worker (C)

Bowlers – Seth Rance, Blair Tickner, Ollie Newton, Hamish Bennett

Suggested Playing XI No.2 for Fantasy Cricket:

Keeper – Dean Cleaver

Batsmen – Devon Conway, Michael Bracewell, Dean Foxcroft (VC), Adam Hose, Will Young

All-rounders – George Worker

Bowlers – Seth Rance (C), Ben Wheeler, Logan van Beek, Jeetan Patel

Expert Advice:

Dean Foxcroft and Logan van Beek have a great chance of coming into the playing XI. However, the chances of the two additions to the Wellington squad, Troy Johnson and Ben Sears are undefined. Both the players have not featured in a game this season. There are chances of both of them not playing and Malcolm Nofal getting picked ahead of them.

Probable Winners:

Wellington Firebirds’ wait for their maiden win of the season might as well extend as this game is expected to end in disappointment.
