India won the toss in the final Test of the match at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi as Dinesh Chandimal failed to call the right side of the coin. Rangana Herath has been ruled out of the first game due to a back injury and was replaced by Lakshan Sandakan while Thirimanne was replaced by Dhananjaya de Silva. Sri Lanka also handed Roshen Silva a debut who replaced Dasun Shanaka in the side.

India brought back dashing opener Shikhar Dhawan into the side after the left-hander missed the Nagpur Test due to his sister’s marriage and he replaced KL Rahul. Shami who missed the second game due to a niggle replaced the Vidarbha express Umesh Yadav. Indian openers gave them a decent enough start as Murali Vijay scored his first 16 runs in just boundaries while Shikhar Dhawan started cautiously but later picked up the scoring pace.

Lakmal loses his shoe

Sri Lanka had brought the spinners back early into the attack as the seam bowlers were unable to find their rhythm. Dilruwan Perera in an over made Shikhar Dhawan sweep him from outside the off-stump. The ball was going towards Suranga Lakmal as the fast-bowler ran to take the catch. During the process, he lost one of his shoes while trying to catch the cherry.

Luckily for the visitors, Lakmal held on to the top edge even after losing one of his shoes. Probably the tough conditions early in the morning at Kotla didn’t help Lakmal as he ran to catch the ball. This could have been a huge mistake had Lakmal failed to catch the ball and the lost shoe be the reason for the drop chance. But he kept his eyes on the ball even after losing the shoe and managed to send the left-hander back to the dressing room
