India have never won a Test series in Australia, they would be hoping to set that record straight this time around. Today they set one record by winning the opening Test of the series down under for the first time. Delighted with the victory like the other Indians, Suresh Raina congratulated the team for their first victory in Australia since 2008 when they beat the hosts in Perth.

Raina tweeted to appreciate the team effort of the visitors. The left-handed batsman had reserved some praises for Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. He gave a shout out to both of them for their important knocks which helped India set a good target for Australia.

He also credited the bowlers for getting the job done by restricting the opposition batsmen. The bowlers were fantastic in the first innings as they restricted Australia for just 235 in the first innings after India folded up for what looked like a sub-par score of 250.

Suresh Raina hailed the ‘solid victory’

The Uttar Pradesh batsman tweeted that it is a solid victory. While critics can point out that Australian team is missing their two best batsmen in the form of Steve Smith and David Warner, beating Australia in Australia is never easy.

This win is a team effort

When India lost four early wickets after opting to bat first on Day 1, some fans started to lose hope. But a brilliant century from Cheteshwar Pujara ensured that India reached a respectable score. Then the tourists needed their bowlers to step up if they wanted to stay in the match and once again they did their job to the perfection as India managed to get a small lead which proved crucial.

Pujara was at it in the second innings once again and this time it was Ajinkya Rahane who supported him. The duo helped India in putting up a challenging target and despite a lower-order collapse, the 323-run target was always going to be enough for the visitors’ best bowling attack.
