Chennai Super Kings, making a comeback into the Indian Premier League (IPL) did get off to a good start winning both their matches but they lost two key players in the process. It was Kedar Jadhav who damaged his hamstring during their first encounter against Mumbai Indians and was ruled out of the rest of the tournament. They also won the second match against Kolkata Knight Riders but their vice-captain Suresh Raina sustained an injury.
Raina hurt his calf and has been ruled out for the next couple of matches. This will thus be the first time that CSK are playing a game and Raina will not be a part of the XI. His 163 appearances have made him the most capped player in the history of the league. The left-hander has played eight out of the ten seasons in the yellow jersey before the eleventh edition and never missed a match.
Though he is away from the on-field action but that hasn’t affected his spirits. Raina posted an inspiration message on Instagram for his followers today and of course it had an image from one of his gym sessions.
He wrote: “It might be tough, but you won’t quit. You might be going through a tough time, but you won’t quit. It is hard to change your mind and body and become better. It’s really hard. And it’s easier to quit than to keep on pushing forward.”
Here is Raina’s post
CSK’s road ahead
Chennai will meet Kings XI Punjab in their next match on April 15. They had quite a break after their previous match and that gives Raina ample time to recover and thus he will only miss a couple of games. Following the encounter against KXIP they will be against old foes and the other returning franchise Rajasthan Royals on April 20.
