The Indian cricketer Suresh Raina underwent knee surgery in Amsterdam on Friday. He was suffering from a niggling knee problem since last season and going under the knife just before the start of India’s domestic season might rule him out of the first half. He will now require at least six weeks of intense rehabilitation to be fully fit and get back on the park.

Suresh Raina didn’t have a memorable Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this year. Though he played a couple of brilliant knocks, the southpaw looked out of touch in most of the matches during his team’s run to the final. Ever since then, Raina was seen in the Netherlands if his posts on social media are to be believed.

His Dutch surgeon Dr H Van der Hoeven informed that the surgery has been successful and it will require the cricketer a decent amount of time to recover fully. “Mr Suresh Raina went through a surgery for his knee where he is been facing discomfort for the last few months. The surgery is been successful and it will require him 4-6 weeks of rehab for recovery,” the surgeon was quoted as saying by Business Standard.

Suresh Raina hasn’t been part of the Indian team for quite some time now. He was included in the ODI squad when India toured England last year to replace Ambati Rayudu who failed the yo-yo test. But Raina couldn’t make the most of the opportunity and failed to make an impact in the two matches which he batted. Rather it was his comeback series in the ODIs and was dropped again from the team after the tour.

As far as the T20 Internationals are concerned, he was part of the Nidahas Trophy which India won and also went to England for the T20I series. But since then hasn’t played for India in any format and will be itching to get back to the park fully fit to stake a claim in the side ahead of the T20 World Cup next year now.

As soon as the news of his surgery broke through the cricketers and the fans wished Suresh Raina speedy recovery.
