Virat Kohli’s journey in cricket is truly inspirational. While he arrived at the international stage as a young prodigy basking in the glory of leading India to the ICC U19 World Cup triumph, not many had predicted him to reach the place he is in now. The India skipper is arguably the best batsman in the world right now and is well on his way to becoming one of the greatest of all time.

He is at the top of ICC ODI rankings for months now and recently regained his number one spot in Tests too after scoring a sublime century in the historic pink-ball Test against Bangladesh. The India batting mainstay is now five rating points clear of his arch-nemesis Steve Smith. If stats are considered, Kohli is heads and shoulders above his contemporaries.

He has already scored a staggering 43 ODI tons and is second in the list of most centuries in the 50-over format. Kohli now needs just 7 more centuries to break Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of 49 centuries. In Tests, Kohli has scored an impressive 27 centuries. He has also scored a staggering 98 half-centuries across formats.

Virat Kohli’s unprecedented consistency with the bat has made him the most popular cricketer across the globe. Not only the fans but cricketers also do not shy away from expressing their admiration for the run machine. And the latest cricketer to do so is Mumbai star, Suryakumar Yadav. After Kohli regained the number one Test ranking, Suryakumar took to Twitter to state that the India star truly deserves it.

He also asked the fans to write one word for Kohli’s remarkable journey in the game, writing:

“For a reason. One word for his journey to reach top of the world. Anyone ?”

Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive displays

Suryakumar Yadav could very soon share the dressing room with Kohli if he continues his current form in domestic cricket. The Mumbai star has emerged as one of the best if not the best finisher in domestic cricket this season. In the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was one of the best performers.

He finished the competition with 392 runs from 11 games. More than the runs, it was the strike-rate of 168.96 and an average of 56 that caught everyone’s attention. With India on the lookout for a reliable finisher now, Suryakumar could well make it to the team sooner rather than later.
