In what can be called a shocking development for the Indian team, Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, which gets underway on February 24. The 31-year-old has been in red-hot form lately and was one of the players to watch out for in the upcoming series.

However, it has been learnt that the right-handed batter suffered a hairline fracture on his hand and been declared unfit for the white-ball series. He sustained the injury while fielding during the third T20I against West Indies on February 20. It must be noted that, Suryakumar made his bat talk against West Indies and was adjudged the Player of the Series in the T20I leg.

He scored 107 runs in three games at a phenomenal strike rate of 140.46. As the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for Sri Lanka T20Is, Suryakumar would have been one of the key figures in India’s batting line-up. However, as reported by Cricbuzz, the dashing batter will give the upcoming series a miss.

Besides Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar also ruled out of Sri Lanka T20Is

Meanwhile, Suryakumar is the second player after bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar to get ruled out of Sri Lanka series. The right-arm pacer sustained a hamstring injury during the third T20I of the series. After dismissing both West Indies openers in the run chase, Chahar looked in extreme discomfort as he walked off the field without completing his second over.

As per the developments, he hasn’t travelled with the team to Lucknow, the venue of the opening T20I. Meanwhile, BCCI are unlikely to name a replacement considering India’s bowling attack has been strengthened with the return of speedster Jasprit Bumrah. The pace spearhead has also been named India’s vice-captain for this series.

Besides the 28-year-old, the home team also has Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel in the squad. Any ways, a replacement at this stage wouldn’t have been even possible owing to the bio-bubble protocols.
