Dwaine Pretorius will be extending his stay in England post the World Cup 2019 as well playing in the T20 Blast which will start soon after the mega event. With the final set to be played on July 14, the T20 Blast is scheduled to start on July 18. Northamptonshire has signed the South African all-rounder for a solitary four-day game and then the T20 tournament.

Pretorius’ signing comes on the back of Northamptonshire’s lows in the last season when they finished at the bottom in the North Group with only two wins and a tie in 14 matches. The player from the rainbow nation has decent T20 numbers for an all-rounder. He has played 108 matches in the format to amass 1426 runs at an impeccable strike-rate of over 140 and has also scalped 72 wickets with a decent economy.

Pretorius delighted with an opportunity

As far as the current form is concerned, Dwaine Pretorius is striking at 156.25 in the ongoing CSA T20 challenge at home and he expects to replicate similar kind of form with Northamptonshire. He also expressed his delight for the opportunity presented and is excited to play his part in the red-ball cricket as well.

“I am really stoked to be joining Northamptonshire for the T20 Blast and for some red ball cricket. I have always wanted to play county cricket – personally, it’s a dream come true and I can’t wait for the opportunity. I will be doing everything I can to help the Steelbacks lift the cup and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be part of the team,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Northamptonshire’s head coach David Ripley also welcomed the 30-year-old saying, “It’s great to have Dwaine joining us for the T20 campaign. He is very hungry for his opportunity and gives is another hard-hitting all-rounder in our line up, which in this format is always great to have.” Pretorius will play alongside Pakistan all-rounder Faheem Ashraf who has also been signed by the County side.
