Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams has been signed up by the Essex Eagles for the upcoming season of T20 Blast and he could play a big role for the side in both the bowling and batting departments. The 29-year-old has been in good form in the recent Big Bash League 2022 and was picked up by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Sams has represented Australia in 7 T20Is so far picking up four wickets and has the highest score of 41 with the bat. He has continuously travelled with the Australian side in the last few series but hasn’t got enough opportunities to showcase his talent in the international stages.

It has to be noted that Sams is the all-time leading wicket-taker for the Sydney Thunder in BBL with 75 wickets and had a great season in BBL 09 which turned the light on him from a lot of franchises.

Essex pleased with the arrival of Sams

Sams mentioned that he is very much delighted to be part of the Essex unit for the upcoming T20 Blast and revealed his excitement over working with a different set of players. Meanwhile, the head coach of Essex, Anthony Mcgrath revealed the happiness over signing Sams and highlighted his left-arm angle which can create a lot of trouble for the batter alongside his slower one cutters.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to be part of Essex Eagles for the T20 Blast this season. It is exciting to join a Club with such a long and rich history and I look forward to joining the players, coaching staff and supporters and contributing on and off the field to the team’s success.” Sams was quoted as saying by Essex official webiste.

“I’m very pleased to secure the signing of Dan for the upcoming Vitality Blast campaign. He’s such a versatile player and has consistently been one of the top performers in the Big Bash in recent years. His left-arm angle is so effective in T20 cricket, but he also possesses an excellent change of pace which makes him a real handful. He will also add some firepower to our batting unit, and he hits a long ball,” Head Coach, Anthony McGrath said.
