T20 Global League: List of finalized squads after Auction Drafts

The inaugural edition of the T20 Global League is all set to get underway this November. On Sunday, August 27, the main player auction drafts took place that saw 32 international players and 96 local players being picked up by the 8 participating franchises. In an exciting turn of events, some of the biggest names of world cricket went under the picking radar of the team owners.

Each of the participating franchise had already been given a marquee South African player. They also had an international marquee player to their names heading into the drafts on August 27. The remaining 16 slots in each team was up for the pickings on the super Sunday. The Main Player Draft saw 16 players being taken up by each team. There were 16 rounds of pickings that took place – with 8 players being picked up in each round.

The first player chosen on the day in the T20 Global League Main Player Draft was South African all-rounder Chris Morris. He was picked up by Durban Qalandars. He was followed by two more Protea players. Dane Paterson was chosen by the Bloem City Blazers and veteran pacer Dale Steyn was bagged by Cape Town Knight Riders.

Among the rookie players, 22-year old Aiden Markram was selected by the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars. He was picked up in the second round. 19-year old rookie Wiaan Mulder was roped in by Stellenbosch Monarchs. Surely, the T20 Global League looks like a very promising tournament with some big names on the roster.
