T20 World Cup 2021, Bangladesh vs PNG and Oman vs Scotland, Stats Review: Shakib Al Hasan’s multiple feats, Aqib Ilyas’ milestones and other stats

A couple of one-sided victories were recorded on Day 5 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. While Bangladesh thumped Papua New Guinea by 84 runs to secure a place in the Super 12, Scotland defeated Oman by eight wickets to top their group in the preliminary round. Hence, they also went through to the next stage alongside Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Now, only one place in the Super 12 is up for grabs.

Speaking of the proceedings of match 9, Shakib Al Hasan’s all-round display blew away PNG. He scored 46 while batting first as the Tigers posted 181/7 after electing to bat first in Al Amerat. Besides him, skipper Mahmudullah also slammed a fiery half-century. Shakib then made the ball talk and took four wickets. As a result, PNG got skittled out for mere 97 runs.

The other contest took place between Scotland and Oman. The Oman side lost regular wickets after batting first and eventually got bundled out for 122. Aqib Ilyas (35) top-scored for them. The total never seemed enough against Scotland as they crossed the line in a mere 17 overs. Skipper Kyle Coetzer, Matthew Cross, and Richie Berrington made crucial contributions with the bat.

11 – Bangladesh now have 11 wins in T20Is this year, the joint-most for any team. South Africa also have also many victories.

84 – Bangladesh recorded their biggest wins in T20Is in terms of runs, 84. Their previous highest was a 71-run victory against Ireland in 2014.

6 – Bangladesh recorded the sixth-biggest win in T20 World Cups in terms of runs.

4 – Shakib Al Hasan now has 9 Player-of-the-Match awards in T20Is, the joint fourth-most for any player.

3 – Shakib now also has the most Player of the Match awards by a Bangladesh player in T20 World Cups (3).  He previously shared the record with Tamim Iqbal (2).

3 – Shakib registered his third-best figures in T20Is, 4/9.

2 – Shakib also recorded the second-best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in T20 World Cups. Mustafizur Rahman, having taken 5/22 against New Zealand in 2016, tops the list.

6 – This was the sixth instance of Shakib taking four or more wickets in a T20I innings, the joint-most for any player. Only Umar Gul has taken four or more wickets as many times in T20Is.

39 – Shakib also equaled Shahid Afridi’s tally of most wickets in T20 World Cups (39).

500 – Aqib Ilyas completed 500 runs in T20 internationals.

50 – Richie Berrington completed 50 sixes in T20I cricket.
