Pakistan have finally been able to beat India in a World Cup game. On Sunday, October 24, the Men in Green defied the odds and thumped the Men in Blue by a mammoth margin of 10 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It was a completely one-sided affair as Babar Azam and Co. didn’t give India the slightest of chance to make a comeback.

Kohli and Pant take charge

Ever since they won the toss and elected to field first, very few things went against them. Shaheen Shah Afridi took Pakistan off to a stupendous start as he got rid of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, who couldn’t open his account. Hasan Ali accounted for Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket to further jolt Team India. After the fall of the early wickets, Rishabh Pant and skipper Virat Kohli steadied the ship.

The duo put on 53 runs for the fourth wicket to guide India to safer shores. Pant scored 39 before Shadab Khan dismissed him caught and bowled. Kohli, at the other end, went on to score a half-century. He became Afridi’s third victim in the penultimate over of the Indian innings. In the end, India huffed and puffed to 151 for seven. Haris Rauf and Shadab also picked up one wicket apiece.

Babar and Rizwan make hay

The run-chase was expected to be a stiff one for Pakistan. But Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan took the onus upon themselves to take their team home. Both batters are the leading T20I run-scorers in 2021 and they didn’t allow the Indian bowlers to settle in any sort of rhythm. The duo didn’t go hammer and tongs from the outset. Rather, they took their time before stepping on the gas.

Babar was the first to get to his half-century off 40 balls. Rizwan, on the other hand, racked up his eighth fifty in 2021 off 41 deliveries.  India used all their five specialist bowlers without much success. Even as Babar stayed unbeaten on 68, Rizwan remained not out on 78. The duo stitched together an unbeaten partnership of 152 as Pakistan won the game with 13 balls to spare.
